Today, amidst the gently rolling hills of southern Washington County, all is peaceful. A significant piece of vernacular architecture stands among the hills, steeped in American history, offering a unique opportunity to those who want to linger at the Antietam National Battlefield.

The mid 19th century log and frame farm house has three bedrooms, each with a private bath, and decorated in comfortable period antiques.

Confederate General James Longstreet used the Piper House as a battlefield headquarters during the bloodiest single day of the American Civil War, on September 17, 1862. Following the battle, the Piper House and barn were used as a field hospital where wounded soldiers, both Confederate and Union, were treated.
